ITINERARY

Day 1:

Upon arrival in Coca, you will meet your local guide. Depending on your time of arrival, you have a chance to have breakfast (not included) at "Maitos del Yasuni" a local restaurant created by the Challuwa Mikuna association to benefit indigenous women. Afterwards we drive by car for about 40 minutes along a paved highway and another 50 minutes along a dirt road. From here we navigate by motorized canoe for about 90 minutes, along the Tiputini River, to the Mandari Panga camp. Upon arrival you have time to get to know the facilities and settle into your tent. Enjoy a welcome drink and a delicious lunch will be served in the main house. In the afternoon we will go to the other side of the Tiputini River for a hike of approximately 2 hours on the Ceibo trail. After dinner we will do a night hike through the jungle. This unique experience allows us to observe the nocturnal creatures of the Amazon, including frogs, snakes and other wildlife that only emerges after dark. With the help of our guide and a flashlight, we will walk along the trail, listening to the sounds of the jungle.

Day 2:

Wake up to the sounds of birds, enjoy a hearty breakfast and prepare for canoeing down the Tiputini River, followed by a hike back to the lodge on the Spider Monkey trail. Spot colorful birds, playful monkeys and maybe even a sloth. Hike through dense vegetation, while learning fascinating facts about the flora and fauna. After our morning of adventure and exploration, we will return to camp to have lunch. Afterwards we will have some time to rest and to recharge for the afternoon's activities. We will have the opportunity to learn about the local culture through engaging and interactive cultural activities. Weaving is an integral part of the indigenous culture in the Amazon, and we will have the chance to create a small piece of woven fabric using traditional techniques. We will also have the opportunity to make handicrafts using natural materials found in the jungle. We will learn about the importance of sustainability and how the indigenous people have lived in harmony with the environment for centuries. We will also make chocolate from cacao beans. These cultural activities offer a unique and authentic perspective about life in the Amazon and will surely be a highlight of our trip. Afterwards we will have a delicious dinner at our campsite.

After an early breakfast (6:30 AM), we will cross to the other side of the Tiputini River in a traditional canoe to start a hike of approximately 3 hours along a trail through primary jungle. We will arrive at the Anaconda Lagoon where, with luck, you might be able to see this reptile. We will return to camp for lunch, and you will have time to relax in your hammock or tent, or cool down with a swim in the river. In the evening, we will take our canoe to La Casa de la Abuela, the home of the community's founder. Situated on a 50-meter-high hill, this traditional home offers an incredible view of the surrounding area. We will learn about the way of life in the jungle and the community's history and traditions, including how to make the traditional drink, chicha. We will witness the incredible sunset, and then we will hike our way back to our campsite, where we will enjoy dinner.
